How To Stop Overthinking and Be Free

Overthinking is when you repetitively dwell on the same thought or situation over and over to the point that it gets in the way of whatever you’re doing. It’s a way of trying to control a situation and feel more confident.

There are 2 groups that are more affected when it comes to overthinking.

These two groups are over achievers and perfectionists and this is because over achievers and perfectionists usually struggle with a fear of failure.

And if you look more deeply into the fear of failure that usually stems from feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness.

Practices to implement to stop overthinking

Practice 1 Take time for self care

Self care can be whatever you want it to be as long as it is something that fills you up. You want to make sure you put it in your schedule and keep the appointment. It can be daily, weekly or twice a month. I would suggest that it be more than monthly so that it can become a habit.

Some examples would be going for a walk, listening to music/podcasts, watching a movie, riding your horse, etc. The goal is to show yourself that you are important and important enough to take time for.

Practice 2 Take a few minutes each morning to become centered

You can do this before you even get out of bed. You can take some deep breaths or sit quietly for a few minutes . It doesn’t have to take long.

Practice 3 Practice mindfulness

Be aware of where you are and what you are doing. You don’t want to do any mindless activities or be reactive.

Practice 4 Be kind to yourself

Give yourself grace.  Stop beating yourself up.

In Closing

Hopefully this training on how to stop overthinking helps you create more joy in your life.
