How To Get Rid Of Catastrophizing
So It Doesn’t Interfere With Your Wellbeing
Catastrophizing is assuming the worst will happen and then adding “bad/negative” things on to it like “if I don’t get this client, then my whole business will fail and I’ll have to move out of my house and I’ll be homeless and I’ll have to live in my car”. The “story” spirals out of control.
Managing catastrophizing is a step in the right direction, but not the ultimate goal.
Some people might think that focusing on the solution to a problem or coming up with some problem solving techniques will eliminate catastrophizing, but that is not the case.
Using the example above, you could focus on what if you don’t get the client and then not add any story to it. So you could say “what if I don’t get the client. It’s not the end of the world”. You could focus on what if you do get the client…but that is still only part of the solution.

These are just ways to deal with the catastrophizing. If you actually want to get rid of catastrophizing, then a different approach is needed.

Journaling
You can journal about your day, about your goals, about what comes up when you make decisions or choices and see if any patterns are present. The patterns will give you insight into what’s going on internally and with your mindset.
Practicing Mindfulness
Practicing mindfulness is a great way to quiet the mind and become centered.
Getting to a place where you are aware of the thoughts is key and then eventually you’ll realize that the thoughts don’t control you. And if you go even deeper, you’ll realize that they are not even your thoughts. They are thoughts that are floating around in the collective consciousness.
You have the power to make whatever choice or decision you want to make regardless of the thoughts that you hear in your head. The catastrophizing stories no longer need to exist in your world.
In Closing
Hopefully, this training on how to get rid of catastrophizing helps you create more peace in your life.
