The Proper Way to Care for Your Lips

One of the keys to healthy lips is keeping them hydrated. Most people look for products with petrolatum or petroleum, but these products only provide a barrier to keep moisture in. They don’t actually hydrate your lips.

In order to care for your lips properly, it’s important to use a product that actually hydrates your lips.

Licking your lips also isn’t the solution, since licking your lips causes them to dry out even more.

Healthy Lip Care Steps

Exfoliate- Exfoliating your lips removes dry, flaking skin and restores the softness and smoothness to your lips and this can be done one to two times per week.Hydrate- Keeping your lips hydrated is essential for healthy lips. Anytime your lips feel dry is the time to hydrate. Licking your lips to keep them hydrated is not a viable solution. Licking your lips actually leads to more dryness.Protect- Lips receive a lot of sun exposure. It’s important to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 15 anytime you’re in the sun. This can be either in your lip product or in addition to it.

In order to show up with confidence, proper lip care is a must.

Unlike the skin on the rest of our body, lips don’t have sebaceous glands. These microscopic glands open into hair follicles, and they are responsible for producing the oil that keeps skin soft and moisturized.

Avoid picking, biting and licking your lips. If you find that you are doing these things, then it’s time to exfoliate your lips.

Having a regular lip care routine will help lessen the “need” to pick, bite and lick your lips and will help keep your lips soft and smooth.
